Stop motion connects to three core branches of 21st century learning — all trained from start to finish.
When working with stop motion and 21st century competencies, we see it as a tree with three main branches: Literacy Skills, Learning Skills, and Life Skills — each one growing stronger with every film students create.
Stop motion provides many opportunities to change direction along the way, so all of these competencies are trained from start to finish of every project.
📚 Literacy Skills
Includes the ability to use, decode, and manage technology, information, and media. Students making stop motion films must combine technical and artistic skills, merging message, image, and sound. Traditional language skills — storytelling, writing dialogue, and voice-acting — are also integral.
💡 Learning
Includes the four C’s: Critical Thinking, Collaboration, Communication and Creativity. When students make films together, they go through a creative collaborative process of compromising and problem solving. Stop motion also develops children’s ability to critically decode video and understand how animation can shape perception.
🌟 Life
Includes personal skills such as initiative, productivity, leadership, and social skills. When children make a stop motion film there is typically a theme or time limit — but children must define tasks, go from talk to action, prioritise, and complete a product. These competencies are practised throughout every project.

From Setup to Premiere in 7 Steps
Everything you need to go from an empty suitcase to a finished film is included in the kit.

Assemble the Camera Stands
The Animation Studio includes two different device stands so you can film from the front and from above — giving you creative flexibility for every scene.

Set the Stage
The suitcase itself functions as the stage with built-in backdrops. Choose between deep purple or sky blue — or mix it up between scenes.

Introduce Your Characters
Find your favourite toy or build your own character with clay. Decide where your movie is going and design the world your characters will live in.

Open the App & Select Camera Angle
Open the Piximakey app and start a new movie. You can immediately see what the camera sees — choose top view or front view with a tap.

Take a Photo, Move the Figure — Repeat
Your movie is made one frame at a time. Take a picture, move your character a little bit, take another picture, and keep going. The ghost picture guides each move.

Record Sound Effects & Voice Acting
Press the microphone button to open the audio editor. Hold down the red record button to record sound — narration, effects, or full voice acting for your characters.

Premiere Your Film & Share It!
Watch your finished movie play back, and share it instantly with the built-in sharing tools. Every student can take their film home to show family and friends.
